While we were travelling through Rasuwa, Nepal, a trekking destination close to the border of China, a unique opportunity presented itself to visit a mysterious town in Tibet called Kyirong.

There are hardly any pictures of the town online. I was mindful of the tight surveillance and security but documented what I could.

Kyirong is a small town in Tibet, close to the border of Nepal. Before the pandemic people from Nepal would go to Kyirong to buy and trade goods, but now the border rules have become stricter.

The juxtaposition of a new and redone town nestled between lush forests and striking mountains, but with a complete lack of people, gives it an unsettling, surreal and melancholic characteristic.
